Utility Billing Change - Notice to Customers
Utility Billing Dates 2012-2013
Rock Port Municipal Utilities Policy:
NEW CUSTOMER
RPMU has established customer deposits ($300 Average) and requires full payment of deposit prior to providing service.
Customer deposits shall be refunded to customer by crediting utility account, if customer has paid all utility bills on a timely basis (by the 10th of each month) for the first 24 months of service, following their deposit date.
Customer deposits shall be refunded to customer upon termination of service, after deduction of all utility bills, fees, penalties and other amounts due.
RPMU requires completion of customer application prior to providing service.
At the time of water meter installation someone must be at the residence to check for leaks.
Payment is due by the 10th, a 10% penalty is applied if payment is not received by the 10th, and service will be disconnected if bill is not paid by the 20th. Reconnection requires payment of past due bill, reconnect fee and payment of next month's bill.
Effective February 2012, payment is due by the 20th, a 10% penalty is applied if payment is not received by the 20th, and service will be disconnected if bill is not paid by the 27th. Reconnection requires payment of past due bill, reconnect fee and payment of next month's bill.
Reconnect fee is $30 during business hours and $60 after hours.
There will be a $30 fee on all returned checks.
Customers are on a cash only basis after two returned checks.
Failure to receive a bill does not void penalty or disconnection. Customers are responsible to call for payment amount for missing or lost bills.
Meters must be easily accessible to meter readers. Do not allow belongings, weeds, shrubs, or debris to obstruct meter access. Do not chain or tether pets in reach of meter path or meter.
Customers may be charged a $10 fee to remove, install or read meters.
ESTIMATION (NEW POLICY 5/12/2008)
Should a water/electric meter stop registering for any reason, the utility shall estimate the usage from that customer's history.
Water usage will be estimated during winter months. Meter pits will not be opened during this time for regular meter reading. RPMU will install a remote water meter for $150 at the expense of the customer for customers requesting water meters to be read during the winter estimation period. Replacement or repair if necessary of said meter will also be at the customer's expense.
BACKFLOW DEVICES
It is customer responsibility to install backflow prevention devices in accordance with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and to have said device inspected annually by a licensed back flow professional and a copy of the inspection sent to RPMU.
